1981 242 GLT ti

Description

I am currently looking to sell or trade my 1981 242 GLT turbo intercooler. I'm very interested in trading for an earlier (85-) 245.

When I bought the car, it hadn't been running for 6 months, and had been just sitting under a tree. I brought it home, replaced the starter, and added fluids and got it running again.

The car is black on black/platinum interior. The body is very straight, but there are a few spots of rust. The rear passenger fender has the largest patches of surface rust. There is a spot under the driver's seat that is starting to rust. Some other small areas of rust exist as well (nose acne, door edge). The paint on the roof was overbuffed by the previous owner. The car would look great with a new coat of paint.

The car sports the rare platinum GLT interior. The front seats covers have some rips, but the seats themselves are still in great condition and still support and bolster well. Also included are rare rear headrests, and all four headrest covers. The rear hat ledge has cut outs for 6"x9" speakers, but the car currently has no audio components (no HU, no speakers, no amp, etc).

The car also sports power mirrors, power windows, manual sun roof, and a black headliner. It also has a working A/C system, but it could use a charge. The dash has a crack right down the center.

The B21ft engine was reported rebuilt 60k miles ago, and still runs well, despite needing a tune. The car has the M46 transmission, but the synchro rings are iffy for 1st and 2nd gear. The transmission could also use a new clutch, as the current one is starting to slip more and more. The U-joint also needs to be replaced.

The car had a new turbo and a dealer intercooler kit installed in 1986.

The brakes are currently very weak, and the rear calipers have seized and occasionally rub. The brake hard lines were improperly remounted by the PO. New or working-used brakes all around would be a good idea.

The PS rack doesn't leak, but the car needs new inner and outer tie rods.

The wheels pictured are not included in the sale. I will include 14" steel wheels with good tires.

I am asking $1600 for this very rare turbo coupe.
